Welcome
Clarance House Garden is a community walled garden in the centre of Thaxted, Essex. It is owned by Thaxted Parish Council.
The garden is about ½ acre and contains a few formal flowerbeds, but mainly it is looked after for the wildlife. The garden is tended by volunteers and hosts community events, horticultural and craft workshops.
Green Space for the Community
Community questionnaire responses for the Thaxted Local Plan gave support to the work being undertaken by volunteers in the development of the Conservation Garden. 56% of respondents thought that it was essential that this area of garden be enhanced and preserved.
We have recently formed a management committee of local people to look after the area for the community, to preserve the character and heritage of the garden and buildings, and create a vibrant and welcoming cultural space. We are currently in the process of registering as a charity with the Charity Commission.
